Class of '63,

The two party animals here in Virginia will be there!!!

Let's get some good dance music.  Let's think beyond just the 50s & 60s.  How about some of the 70s music - lots of great songs from those years.  The 80s...???

I'll do name tags again just with bigger print this time.  Sure noticed a lot of folks looking at former classmates three times and the photo on the name tag before they realized who they were looking at.  Have we changed that much???

Question?  Why only until 10 PM?  Is there a city wide curfew in force or something?  Do old folks have to be home by 10:30?  It's not like we can retire to the Royal Castle (is that the correct name?) down on South Florida Avenue for 15-cent hamburgers & gossip.  We can take a nap that afternoon and be ready for a full evening of fun can't we?

Let's keep it simple & informal.  Remember - this is a Birthday Party not a diner dance.

Cater a buffet of something simple with the caterer bring everything that's needed.  They bring it, they serve it and they clean up.  After eating we turn up the music (but not too loud) and we can visit and dance the night away.  And with a caterer it allows everyone including our volunteers more time to socialize... and dance if they choose.

So what do you think --- simple or over-the-top?  A dozen classmates bring, feeding & cleaning up after 150 people or a caterer?

So who's willing to help and what are you willing to do???????????????

I will be there, and am willing to work on planning & or decorating.  I do know a good, reasonable caterer who can cook, serve, and clean.  I'm in my cabin in Bryson City, NC now, but will be back for the  Oct.4th breakfast ..

I agree with Chuck that the whole affair should be catered.  Reaching the ripe old age of 70 I think we deserved to be pampered for one night and hope to God we all wake up the next day refreshed and ready to face the next 70 years!  Dennis

Classmates,

We had a nice December breakfast this morning at our house. We missed the classmates who couldn't come.

We want to let who ever brought the  2 Tupperware containers and left them know ,I will bring them to Jan. breakfast. Also will bring dish towel and 2 pot holders. One of them is a mitt. I think the containers are Hugh Patterson.

Some of his delicious blonde fruitcake was in one of the containers.  See you in January at DWayne's.  Dennis

Can't wait to see all of you at our big "70" birthday party.  I just turned 70 and I can NOT believe it.  I have never had a birthday before that keeps putting me in "shock" like this one.  70!!  Can't get my head around that BIG number!  I keep asking myself "Am I really 70"?.  I guess I am in shock to have lived all these years.  And I am blessed and very thankful.  See the rest of you old folks very soon!

Can't wait to come to the 70th Birthday Party.  There will be a lot of candles on this cake.  Our class is getting smaller and smaller.  We are dropping like flies.  Hang in there everybody,  Life is good.

Candles on our cake?  Absolutely!!!  However, (isn't there always a "however" whenever you're planning on having fun...?) Bob is working with City officials in order to obtain the necessary "Fire Permit" given the size of 70 candles all burning at once, the birthday cake "bonfire" being inside a public building and the folks in charge will all being "senior citizens."  The current back-up plan is reported to be individual cup cakes in the appropriate orange & black school colors but without the pyrotechnic materials except for one large blazing candle out on the front lawn of the Civic Center.

The other issue is we all need to keep reminding each other of the 70th Birthday Party so we don't forget that we're having one!!!  This getting old stuff is a pain in something but I can't remember where...

Oh well, see you in May candles or no candles!!!
