Charlotte Goolsby (Towles)

Charlotte Vernett Goolsby peacefully passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020, near Detroit, Michigan. Charlotte was born in Jesup, Georgia on March 5, 1945, to Frances Matella Pye and William Mabry Goolsby.  In her youth, Charlotte's family moved to Lakeland, Florida and she graduated from Lakeland Senior High School in 1963.

Throughout her entire life, Charlotte loved reading, quilting, and was always open to trying new things – be it traveling, ballroom dancing, or parasailing.  Charlotte was a dear friend to many, offering kindness and joy to everyone she met.  An avid entrepreneur and crafter, Charlotte co-owned a bookstore in Lakeland and other small businesses with her dearest friend Patsy Ruth Weston.  Her handwork is cherished by her. Charlotte served our country as a wife to a Marine Corps Officer and kept the home fires burning during multiple tours of duty. She experienced life throughout the United States, including North Carolina, Seattle, Florida, Orange County California, and Texas.  Always a free-spirit, she traveled extensively and found people and things to delight her everywhere she went. Charlotte served her community her entire life - caring for neighbors, volunteering extensively, and serving as a Board Member of the Kyle (Texas) Public Library.

Charlotte is survived by her three children Christina, Virginia, and Jonathan, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mabry Lavone Goolsby.
