Donovan was in the fraternity next to mine at FSU. Good guy who like lots of others died way to young. As I learned in Vietnam you never know when its your time so enjoy every day to the fullest. Rest in peace Donovan, we will all be joining you.
I grew up with Donovan but lost contact after high school. He lived a street over and whatever sports we were involved with his mother was always there supporting us. When watching football he always rooted for the underdog.
Donovan and I grew up playing football at Lakeland Jr. High (Green Hornets) then Kakeland Sr, Donovan always excelled in sports, After my four years in the Navy I kept in contact with Donovan and his wife Susan. They both was wonderful. I have nothing but good memories of Donovan.
I hadn't seen Donovan for many years after graduation until I saw him at the special olympics at Bartow High School. My older daughters were Junior Girl Scouts and were volunteering as chaparones for a group of special needs kids. Donovan was I believe at the time working at Polk Life and Learning School in Bartow. Several years later after when I had changed jobs we met again at Highland City Elementary where he was principal. He was a very pleasant guy. It was a shame to lose him so early.
Who in LHS didn't know Donavan. He lived behind the Florida Baptist Children's Home and was great friends with Chuck Stallard. When removed from the Home, his family welcomed Chuck with opened arms.
I did not know Donavan well in Jr High or High School but he was a heck of a football player, quarterback and conerback. I knew him through the School Board. He was an excellent Principal. We needed more like him. His wife Susan is a gem. His death was sudden and unexpected. What a tragedy.
