Sorry to see Joy's name here. We seemed to end up in the same classes through out high school. She always had that bubble personality that made being around her fun. Frankly when I left LHS I never looked back or tried to stay in touch but as soon as I saw her picture here I had good memories of her. I can only hope she had a great life right up to her passing.
This is speculation based on a faded memory, but I don't think Joy had a brother. I think she had a sister. Her father was Reuben Gibson. He was an agent for Woodman of The World Insurance Co. Kind of a neat guy. good looking, complete with "hawksbill" nose (Lee Van Cleef, only better looking).
Later, Reuben became mayor of Lakeland. Before he moved to SW Lakeland, he lived at 807 S. Ingraham Ave. That property was purchased by Dr. James R. West in the late 1940's, who also later became a city commissionter, maybe even Mayor???? Dr. West had four daughters; Ellen (LHS 1958), Mary ('59 or '60); Ann (1961); and Jemy June, my best buddy, (1965). All good times near the intersection of Ingraham and McDonald - and Florida Southern College.
